Love having a large bag of this quinoa on hand. Not only is it delicious, but it’s perfect for planning out healthy meals. I’ll make a large batch of tricolor quinoa at the start of each week and then use periodically as a base for different meals. Appreciate that Keen One is transparent about its sourcing practices and am always happy to support such a great company.
The Tricolor quinoa arrived on time and in perfect condition. I love the full bodied taste of the tricolor quinoa either plain with a little olive oil, or it can be made festive with some colorful peppers and onions .
Some quinoa is very small in grain size, and much of it goes through your strainer when washing and is wasted. Keen One Tricolor is a larger grain size, so it stays in the strainer, avoiding waste. I cook quinoa with millet and basmati rice, and the flavor of the mixture is very flavorful.
What is quinoa?
Quinoa, or Chenopodium quinoa of the Amaranthaceae flowering plant family, is a grain crop grown for its edible, protein-packed seeds. The plant itself is most closely related to spinach and beets, and also boasts iron-rich, edible leaves.
What are the health benefits of quinoa?
Quinoa is ridiculously healthy and chock-full of nutrients! Check out our nutritional benefits page for more information.
Is quinoa gluten-free?
Yes! All quinoa is naturally gluten-free. Keen One Quinoa is processed in a dedicated facility, eliminating any risk of gluten contamination.
Does quinoa need to be rinsed?
Yes, but not ours! Quinoa produces its own natural pest deterrent called saponin. Saponin is bitter to the taste and acts as a poison to small insects, birds and rodents. It’s a general diuretic to most humans, which is why you should always rinse your quinoa with water if possible. To make things simple for our customers, Keen One Quinoa is triple washed and ready to enjoy, no extra rinsing required (unless you really want to).
Why the name Keen One?
Keen One stands for "life giving,” “necessary,” and “of premium quality” — which our products are! The idea for the brand was sparked in a classroom at University of Colorado Leeds School of Business. It’s a great story, actually. Read about it here!
