Reasons To Bring Quinoa Into Your Beauty Routine

Quinoa is a great source of protein, dietary fiber, B vitamins, and amino acids which are all good for your diet, although there are beauty benefits behind quinoa as well.  In comparison to other grains, Quinoa is exceptionally high in proteins resulting in a good balance of essential amino acids.  Essential amino acids cannot be made by the body, so as a result we must get them through food.

Amino acids supply nutrients to nourish the skin, hair and nails from within the body.  FSS Quinoa Extract has been developed through the fermentation of the seeds of the Quinoa plant.  By fermenting the Quinoa seeds with the bacteria lactobacillus lactis we are able to isolate and concentrate the naturally occurring proteins of the seed and thus standardize the amino acid content.  This procedure strengthens connective tissue and keeps the skin smooth and elastic, the nails firm and the hair strong.

Dermatologist Dr. Joshua Zeichner, MD, defers to a study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science last year and says, "Quinoa extract can help brighten the skin and slow skin aging, improving the appearance of crepe-y skin and fine lines.”  He also explains that it also inhibits the activity of matrix metalloproteinases—MMPs—that cause collagen breakdown, lightens sun spots by blocking the enzyme required to produce hyperpigmentation, and acts as an antioxidant to quell free radical-induced inflammation.

There are a variety of skin and hair products that utilize Quinoa as the main ingredient, although here is a link to a fun, easy, DIY facial and a few recommend products.
